Upwork FAQ

upwork

This post is an English version of this post. Even though the post was meant for Indonesian audience, I decided to post this version to benefit larger audience as well ?

Q: My profile is rejected. What can I do to get approved?
A: If Upwork hasn’t approved your profile, it means either your profile wasn’t representing yourself or they don’t have (enough) jobs for you. So complete profile 100% (overview, project/portfolio, education/certification, experience, social media .etc), select unique category and skills, learn uncommon in-demand skills

Q: What are the most demanded skills by customer in Upwork?
A: Check the regular report by Upwork. Based on the latest report when this post was made, the top 10 most demanded skills are:

  1. .NET Core
  2. TypeScript
  3. Landing pages
  4. eBooks
  5. Android
  6. Electronic design
  7. Presentation
  8. Sketch
  9. Research
  10. Technical recruiter

Q: My payment status is PENDING. When will it be in my balance?
A: For hourly contract, your payment will be in your balance after 10 days (assuming there is no dispute from client). As for fixed contract, it will be 5 days after the client approves your milestone. Check here for further details

Q: Can I purchase Connect/Plus Membership using local bank transfer or debit card in Indonesia?
A: Yes, but only Jenius debit card is currently accepted. If you don’t have it, you need to use credit card. You can try to buy and use Paypal balance but it is not recommended as Paypal often considers it suspicious

Q: Which withdrawal method is the most profitable for Indonesian bank?
A: Transferwise is the most profitable so far. Mainly due to its exchange rate which is more competitive than Paypal or direct wire transfer. You can find articles about it all over the internet. By the way, if you register through my referral link above, you will get waiver for first £500 international transfer! ?

Q: How to add Transferwise as my withdrawal method?
A: First, obtain a US bank account details from Transferwise: login to Transferwise (or register for free), apply for a Borderless Account (deposit and document verification required), and open USD balance. Once successful, you will obtain US bank account details: Account Holder, Routing Number and Account Number. Next, add new withdrawal method in Upwork: login to Upwork, go to Settings > Get Paid > Add Method, select “Direct to U.S. Bank (USD)” as method, fill in the details from Transferwise USD balance (Account Holder, Routing Number and Account Number), select “Individual Checking” as Account Type. Save and wait around 3 days for verification
